Data Scope & Curation Methods

Data sources

BGMP 1.0 integrates data from 125 relevant studies retrieved from PubMed, together with resources from ISBT, BGMUT, Erythrogene and Versiti-HPA. The database also curates clinical datasets, genetic sequencing results and literature-based research findings.

Included systems and annotations

Coverage includes erythrocyte systems, platelet (HPA), granulocyte (HNA), and Serum Protein (IG). The erythrocyte overview includes 10 carbohydrate-based systems (histoblood group systems) and 40 protein-based systems.

Available table fields include BGMP No., phenotype, gene name, allele name, nucleotide change, predicted amino acid change, exon, PMID, GenBank ID, rs number and notes. Prevalence is shown where included in the source table.

Literature curation and standardization

Construction of the database involves collecting relevant information from scientific literature and clinical data, followed by standardizing and formatting the data. Data are entered in a unified format to facilitate querying and use.

Source identifiers such as PMID, GenBank ID and rs number allow users to refer to the underlying records. The table interface presents the available annotations and uses N/A when a field is not supplied.

Version updates

BGMP 2.0 expands allele, variant and HNA coverage under the standardized data framework. See the release notes for the specific additions.
